The word quartz is derived from Polish and Czech root words meaning “hard”. Interestingly ancient Greeks referred to quartz as krustallos which means “icy cold” because they thought quartz was a form of supercooled ice. Quartz has many forms most of which are used as gemstones. Druzy is the glittering effect of tiny crystals of over the surface of a colorful mineral, in most cases quartz. It is formed over millions of years and though delicate in appearance is really quite hard and lends itself to cutting and shaping for use in jewellery.
