Serveware
Athithi Devo Bhava, an extract from ancient scriptures, describes the attitude with which guests were traditionally welcomed into homes in India. Literally translated to mean, "a guest is equal to God", there was a traditional five part almost worshipful ceremony with which guests were hosted. Known as the Panchopchara Puja, the formalities included Dhupa (ensuring that rooms were fragrant), Dipa (adequate lighting using lamps), Naivedya (offering of fruits and sweets), Akshata (a tikka/tilak - vermillion paste put on the forehead of the guest) and Pushpa (a parting gift of a flower to make the visit memorable).
