This beautiful necklace combines two kinds of crystals nurtured in the earth's crust in their own unique ways. The word quartz is derived from Polish and Czech root words meaning “hard”. Interestingly ancient Greeks referred to quartz as krustallos which means “icy cold” because they thought quartz was a form of supercooled ice. Quartz is a mineral that forms crystals - there are many forms of quartz - the brown coloured stone here is known as toffee quartz. Agate too is a a stone is from the quartz family. Agate is composed of tiny crystals and is a finely grained stone. This translucent gemstone has lovely color patterns and wavy bands.
