The word quartz is derived from Polish and Czech root words meaning “hard”. Interestingly ancient Greeks referred to quartz as krustallos which means “icy cold” because they thought quartz was a form of supercooled ice. Quartz has many forms most of which are used as gemstones. Pure quartz, also known as rock quartz or clear quartz is colourless and transparent or translucent. These quartz crystals are set in bezel fashion.
